KATIE WHEELER

MSC, LPC-MHSP, OWNER

Katie is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Mental Health Services Provider designation (LPC-MHSP) in the state of Tennessee. She graduated undergraduate with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan. Katie then moved to Tennessee to attend graduate school at Milligan University to receive her Master of Science in Counseling.

After graduate school, Katie and her husband moved to Knoxville where she began working in community mental health for several years. During her time in community mental health, Katie became passionate about working with clients who have experienced trauma because she observed the significant impact trauma has on the body, mind, and soul. She also understood when trauma was healed, clients’ symptoms improved. Katie has been trained in trauma focused evidence-based practices including Trauma Focused CBT and EMDR. In addition to evidence-based practices, she recognizes a therapeutic environment must supply clients with a tranquil sanctuary to grow, process, and heal.

In 2020, Katie’s passion for working with clients who experienced trauma continued to grow and she opened Tranquil Minds Counseling in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Katie has since expanded her practice and relocated to the West Knoxville area. During her time in Oak Ridge, Katie became comfortable with those who have specific needs around government security clearance and understands its sensitive nature. Katie still enjoys working with this population today.

Katie has also become passionate about working with women who have a diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) or hypothyroidism. Katie understands how health issues and hormonal imbalances can impact mental health and enjoys working with women who are trying to balance the stress of the world and their wellbeing.

Katie’s ideal client would come to session ready to process difficult things while they curl up on her couch by her fireplace and feel at home in her office. Although Katie has worked with clients of all ages and diagnoses over the years, currently she is passionate about serving those who are teenagers and adults.

When Katie is not in session, she enjoys spending time with her husband, baking, and playing with her two German Shepherds; Asher and Hannah.
